MNM Scales stocks NTEP price computing scales for farmers markets, delis, produce stands, meat counters, candy shops and convenience stores, from Torrey, CAS, Brecknell, Adam Equipment and A&D. A price computing scale shows weight, unit price and total price together, so checkout is quick and every sale is legal for trade. As one of the largest scale distributors in Texas, we ship these scales free from Cypress, TX, and we can calibrate them before they ship.
How to choose a price computing scale
- NTEP approval. A scale used to price goods by weight has to be NTEP approved and, in Texas, placed in service. Every model below is NTEP approved. See what NTEP legal for trade means.
- Capacity and division. 30 lb dual-range scales read 0.005 lb on small items and 0.01 lb above 15 lb. For larger produce or meat cuts, step up to 60 lb or 80 lb models.
- Display. A tower or pole display faces the customer at eye level, while a flat display keeps the counter low.
- Power. Rechargeable battery models work at outdoor markets with no outlet nearby.
- POS link. A POS interface scale, such as the CAS PDN-30 or Brecknell 6720U, sends weight to the register instead of computing price itself.

Choosing the right price computing scale
Farmers markets and produce stands
A rechargeable 30 lb or 40 lb scale such as the Torrey LPC-40L or CAS ER Jr keeps selling all day without an outlet.
Delis and meat counters
Counters that print labels need a label printing scale. See our deli scale with label printer guide. For price-only counters, the Torrey PC-80L handles larger cuts.
Candy, nuts and bulk foods
Small scoops sell best on a fine division. The A&D SF-6KA reads 0.005 lb with a customer-facing tower display.
Stores with a POS system
Choose a POS interface scale such as the CAS PDN-30 so the register prices the item from the weight it receives.
Calibration and Texas placed-in-service
Every price computing scale on this page can ship calibrated from our Cypress, TX shop. Calibration is priced by maximum capacity:
| Scale maximum capacity |
In-house calibration with NIST-tested weights |
NIST calibration with NIST-traceable certificate |
| 2.2–6.2 kg (4.85–13.7 lb) |
$195 |
$495 |
| 6.2–35 kg (13.7–77 lb) |
$250 |
$595 |
| 35–150 kg (77–330 lb) |
$350 |
$750 |
A scale whose capacity is exactly at a tier limit uses the lower tier.
The 15 lb A&D SF-6KA falls in the 2.2–6.2 kg tier, 30 lb to 60 lb models fall in the 6.2–35 kg tier, and the 80 lb Torrey PC-80L falls in the 35–150 kg tier. Calibration usually takes 1–3 business days after we receive the scale. In Texas, a scale used for sales has to be placed in service and registered with the Texas Department of Agriculture. MNM Scales is TDA licensed with registered technicians for all scale classes, and we handle the RWM-780 and RWM-700 paperwork. Read TDA scale certification in Texas.
Our technicians calibrate and place scales in service on-site across the Houston area and surrounding suburbs, with Dallas, Austin and San Antonio on request. On-site service is $295 plus $2 per mile round trip, charged once per visit, with calibration priced per scale on top. See legal-for-trade calibration in Texas.
