How to choose an A&D balance

A&D builds its balances around the Super Hybrid Sensor (SHS), which settles in about one second on most models. Four choices narrow the range quickly:

• Readability. 0.1 mg for analytical work, 0.001 g for formulation and reloading, 0.01 g to 0.1 g for larger samples.
• Calibration. Internal calibration models (GX-A, FZ) calibrate themselves with a built-in weight. External calibration models (GF-A, FX-i) use a test weight and cost less.
• Environment. Fortis FZ-WP models are IP65 for dusty or wet benches.
• Legal for trade. Models ending in N, such as the FX-200iN and GF-203AN, are NTEP Class II for selling by weight.

Choosing the right A&D balance

Analytical labs and QC

For 0.1 mg work, the GX-124A and GX-224A give internal calibration and fast settling. Choose the GX-124AE when powders cling to the pan, since its ionizer removes static charge.

Formulation and production

The GX-203A, GX-3002A and GX-6001A cover 220 g to 6,200 g with internal calibration, so readings stay true as room temperature shifts.

Wet or dusty benches

The Fortis FZ-223WP and FZ-3202WP are IP65 and wipe clean for food, chemical and cannabis prep rooms.

Reloading and hobby use

Calibration for A&D balances

Every A&D balance on this page can ship calibrated from our Cypress, TX shop. Calibration is priced by the balance’s maximum capacity:

A scale whose capacity is exactly at a tier limit uses the lower tier.

A 220 g GX-203A falls in the up to 2.2 kg tier, and a 6,200 g GX-6001A falls in the 2.2–6.2 kg tier. Calibration usually takes 1–3 business days after we receive the balance. Already own one? On-site service in Houston

MNM Scales is TDA licensed, with TDA-Registered Technicians for all scale classes. Our technicians calibrate and repair balances on-site across the Houston area and surrounding suburbs, with Dallas, Austin and San Antonio on request. A&D balance FAQ

What is the difference between the A&D GX-A and GF-A?

Both belong to the Apollo family and share pan sizes and readability across most capacities. The GX-A adds a built-in calibration weight, and the GF-A uses an external weight at a lower price.

Which A&D balance is best for reloading?

The FX-120i at 122 g x 0.001 g is a popular choice and pairs with common powder tricklers. The EJ-54D2 offers 0.0002 g resolution on its 22 g range.

Are A&D balances legal for trade?

Models ending in N are. The FX-iN and GF-AN Apollo series are NTEP Class II, and the GF-AN also carries Measurement Canada approval.

Can I connect an A&D balance to a computer?

Yes. Most A&D balances include RS-232C, and the Apollo series also has USB. See connecting a scale to a computer.

Do you calibrate A&D balances before shipping?

Yes. Add an in-house or NIST calibration in the tier that matches the balance’s capacity, and we calibrate it in Cypress, usually within 1–3 business days.
