NIST-Traceable Calibration Certificates for Scales & Balances
Need a calibration certificate your auditor will accept? MNM Scales performs NIST calibration on scales and balances and documents it on a NIST-traceable certificate, from $395. Order it with a new scale, mail in a scale you already own, wherever you bought it, from anywhere in Texas or from any state that accepts TDA calibration, or bring it to our Cypress shop. Most calibrations are done within 1–3 business days after we receive the scale.
What a NIST-Traceable Certificate Means
Traceability is an unbroken chain of calibrations that links your scale’s results back to the national mass standards kept by the National Institute of Standards and Technology. Your certificate documents the calibration of your specific scale or balance and that chain. It gives quality managers, inspectors and customers a written record that the readings can be trusted.
Who Needs One
- Laboratories and universities: analytical balances, internal-calibration balances and moisture analyzers
- Pharmacies and compounding: balances used for prescription and general testing
- Manufacturing and QC: scales tied to specs, batch records and supplier audits
- Medical offices and clinics: patient scales with a documented record
- Anyone facing an audit who needs proof of accuracy on file
NIST Calibration or In-House Calibration?
| In-house calibration | NIST calibration | |
|---|---|---|
| Certificate | MNM calibration certificate | NIST-traceable certificate |
| Weights | NIST-tested weights | NIST-traceable standards |
| Best for | Everyday accuracy, shipping, retail, production | Labs, pharmacies, QC programs, audits |
| Price from | $95 | $395 |
NIST Calibration Prices
Prices are per scale, based on the scale’s highest capacity. A capacity exactly at a limit uses the lower tier.
| Max capacity | NIST calibration with NIST-traceable certificate | In-house alternative |
|---|---|---|
| Up to 2.2 kg | $395 | $95 |
| Over 2.2 to 6.2 kg | $495 | $195 |
| Over 6.2 to 35 kg | $595 | $250 |
| Over 35 to 150 kg | $750 | $350 |
| Over 150 kg | $995 | $495 |
Add NIST calibration to your cart (scales up to 6.2 kg):
NIST, up to 2.2 kg, $395 NIST, 2.2–6.2 kg, $495
Prefer the in-house certificate? In-house, up to 2.2 kg, $95 In-house, 2.2–6.2 kg, $195
Scales over 6.2 kg: call (832) 290-3120 or request a quote at the listed price.
Three Ways to Get Your Certificate

- With a new scale: add NIST calibration at checkout. We calibrate it before it ships and include the certificate.
- Mail-in, nationwide: for scales bought from MNM or anywhere else, available across Texas and in states that accept TDA calibration. Call before you ship and we’ll confirm your state and the service. Usually completed within 1–3 business days after we receive it.
- In-shop or on-site in Houston: drop off at our Cypress shop (visits by appointment), or book on-site calibration for labs, pharmacies and medical offices.
Keep Your Own Checks Between Calibrations

A check weight lets you confirm accuracy daily or weekly between certificates. Shop calibration weights sized to your balance.
NIST Calibration Certificate FAQ
What is a NIST-traceable calibration certificate?
It is a certificate documenting that your scale was calibrated with standards linked to NIST’s national mass standards through an unbroken chain of calibrations. MNM Scales issues it after calibrating your scale or balance.
How much is a NIST calibration certificate for a scale?
NIST calibration with a NIST-traceable certificate costs $395 up to 2.2 kg, $495 up to 6.2 kg, $595 up to 35 kg, $750 up to 150 kg and $995 above 150 kg.
Can I get a NIST certificate for a scale I already own?
Yes, wherever you bought it. Mail it in from Texas or a state that accepts TDA calibration, bring it to our Cypress shop by appointment, or book on-site calibration in Greater Houston.
How long does NIST calibration take?
Usually 1–3 business days after we receive your scale.
Can I order a new scale with a NIST certificate?
Yes. Add NIST calibration for your scale’s capacity to the cart with the scale, and the certificate ships with it.
How often should a NIST calibration be renewed?
Most quality programs and auditors set the interval, and annual recalibration is a common choice. Heavy use, a move or an overload are good reasons to recalibrate sooner.
Is NIST calibration the same as legal-for-trade?
They serve different purposes. NIST calibration documents accuracy for quality and audits. Legal-for-trade covers scales used to sell by weight in Texas, which a TDA-licensed company places into service. MNM Scales does both. See legal-for-trade calibration.
