Scale Calibration & Repair in Conroe, TX

Scale calibration and repair in Conroe, TX for the fabrication shops, lumber yards, ranches and clinics of Montgomery County. Our TDA-registered technicians come up I-45 with calibrated test weights, work through all your scales in one visit and document each one with an in-house or NIST-traceable certificate. Load cells, indicators and cables come from our own stock, so most repairs are finished the same day.

Sawmills, Oil and the County Seat

Conroe began in 1881 as a sawmill camp built around Isaac Conroe’s mill in the pine forest, and timber carried the town for half a century. Oil changed it in December 1931, when the Conroe field came in and drilling crews and supply houses arrived. Conroe has been the Montgomery County seat since 1889 and today has hospitals, county offices and a growing set of industrial parks on both sides of town.

The mix shows in what gets weighed. Oilfield equipment builders, metal fabricators and plastics shops lift heavy parts and test fixtures. Lumber yards and wood products plants still move heavy stacks with loaders and forklifts. Ranches and feed stores across the county weigh cattle, hay and feed, and Lake Conroe, impounded in the early 1970s, added marinas and bass clubs that hold weigh-ins through the season.

Fabrication bays rely on heavy crane scales like the MNM 40,000 lb unit. In lumber yards, an on-board loader scale such as the Tara MNM Scales system weighs each bucket or pallet on the machine, cutting trips to a floor scale. Our loader scale guide and force measurement guide cover both jobs in detail.

What Usually Goes Wrong With Conroe Scales

  • Calibration mode entered by mistake. On many indicators a held key or jumper opens setup, and one wrong entry throws off every reading. We return settings to spec and recalibrate.
  • Load cells worn out by heavy lifting in fabrication bays and lumber yards. We test each cell, replace failed ones from stock and recalibrate.
  • Cut cables on crane and floor scales, often from a swinging load or a loader wheel.
  • Loader scales that drift as hydraulic pressure sensors age or hoses are changed. We recalibrate on your machine with known loads.
  • Livestock scales with mud and water in the junction box, cleaned, resealed and calibrated.

Repairs are quoted per job and every repaired scale is calibrated before we leave. While a heavy scale is down, a rental keeps the yard moving.

Selling Feed, Hay or Lumber by Weight

A scale that sets a price must meet NIST Handbook 44 and be suitable for its use, usually an NTEP-approved model, and must be placed into service by a registered technician of a TDA-licensed service company. We calibrate it and file the RWM-780, and we help with RWM-700 registration. Shops that ship equipment with test records, and county or hospital labs, often need a NIST-traceable certificate. Details are on legal-for-trade calibration in Texas.

Crane scales in daily use are worth checking every six months, livestock and floor scales yearly, and tournament scales before each season. On-site work is finished during the visit; bench work at our shop or by mail runs 1 to 3 business days.
