Load Cell Price: What a Load Cell Costs by Type and Capacity
Reviewed by MNM Scales technicians · Updated November 2, 2026 · Prices checked November 2, 2026
Short answer: a load cell costs $88 to $1,698 at MNM Scales today, depending on type and capacity. Single point cells for bench scales run $118 to $499, shear beam cells for floor scales $89 to $198, S-type cells $88 to $279, and pancake cells $259 to $1,698. Stainless and NTEP cells usually cost more than alloy steel cells of the same capacity. Call (832) 290-3120 with the model on your old cell and we will match it.

What changes a load cell price
- Material: stainless steel costs more than alloy steel. The GX-1 5K alloy steel shear beam is $89; the GX-1-SSH-5K stainless washdown cell is $121.
- Sealing: washdown and hermetically sealed cells cost more and suit wet or food plants.
- NTEP approval: cells for trade scales carry an NTEP certificate; the Zemic B3G 10,000 lb stainless S-beam is NTEP at $247. See our Zemic load cell guide.
- Capacity and envelope: large-envelope beams and high-capacity pancakes use more steel; the CP-1-500K 500,000 lb pancake is $1,698.
- Accuracy class: cells for higher-resolution scales are matched to the indicator; see our Class I load cell guide before you price one.
- Cable and hardware: feet, spacers, rod ends and mounting kits are sold separately unless the listing names them; the GX-1-20K listing includes a foot and spacer.

Need a double-ended beam or a canister cell? We quote them to order; send the model and capacity from your old cell’s label. Canister cells on older platform and hopper scales are covered in our Howe Richardson load cell guide, and S-type rigging in our tension load cell guide.
The full cost of replacing a load cell
- The cell: match capacity, type, mounting and output to the old cell; prices above.
- Junction box: a four-cell scale sums its cells in a junction box; the JB-4SS-ST stainless junction box is $48.98. See our junction box guide.
- All four or one: replacing one damaged cell costs less; replacing all four on a worn scale gives matched cells. A scale kit bundles cells, junction box and indicator.
- Corner trim and calibration: after any cell change the scale is trimmed corner to corner and calibrated with test weights.
- Labor: our technicians repair the brands we sell and can test the cells before you buy parts.
Rules: NTEP load cells and trade scales
On a scale used to buy or sell by weight, the load cells are part of a legal-for-trade device. In the table, NTEP marks cells covered by an active NTEP certificate for that model and capacity. TDA does not require an NTEP certificate for every device, but the scale must meet NIST Handbook 44 and suit its use; some scales do need one, so we recommend NTEP models and can check yours. Any scale used to buy or sell by weight has to be legal for trade, and we recommend NTEP models for that use. Our TDA-registered technicians can check your use; see our NTEP guide and our TDA scale certification guide.
Calibration and rental
- Bench scales 6.2 to 35 kg: after a cell change, in-house calibration with a certificate is $250, or NIST calibration with a NIST-traceable certificate is $595.
- Scales 35 to 150 kg: order in-house calibration or NIST calibration; call for a quote.
- Floor and tank scales over 150 kg: order in-house calibration with a certificate or NIST calibration with a NIST-traceable certificate; call us for current calibration pricing.
- On-site service: $295 + $2 per mile per visit across the Houston area, with calibration charged per scale; see on-site calibration in Houston and our scale calibration service in Houston.
- Budgets and certificates: see how much scale calibration costs and NIST vs in-house certificates.
- Mail-in and rentals: ship a bench scale for mail-in calibration, and rent all types of scales while yours is down.

Frequently asked questions
How much does a load cell cost?
At MNM Scales today, load cells cost $88 to $1,698. Single point cells run $118 to $499, shear beam cells $89 to $198, S-type cells $88 to $279 and pancake cells $259 to $1,698.
Why do stainless load cells cost more?
Stainless steel and sealed construction cost more to make. The GX-1 5K alloy shear beam is $89 and the GX-1-SSH-5K stainless washdown cell is $121.
Do NTEP load cells cost more?
Usually, because they carry an NTEP certificate for trade use. The Zemic B3G 10,000 lb stainless S-beam is NTEP at $247.
Should I replace one load cell or all four?
Replacing one damaged cell costs less. On a worn scale, replacing all four gives matched cells. Either way, the scale is trimmed and calibrated after the change.
What else do I pay for when I replace a load cell?
Plan for calibration and, on four-cell scales, possibly a junction box ($48.98 for the JB-4SS-ST). On-site service across Greater Houston is $295 + $2 per mile per visit.
Can you match a load cell with a worn or missing label?
Call (832) 290-3120 or send photos, the capacity and the mounting dimensions. We will match a cell or quote one to order.
