Scale Calibration & Repair in Deer Park & La Porte, TX

Scale calibration and repair in Deer Park and La Porte, TX, on the south bank of the Houston Ship Channel. Our TDA-registered technicians calibrate drum, floor, bench and crane scales at refineries, chemical and polymer plants, and port and freight yards, and they calibrate the balances in plant labs. Every scale gets an in-house or NIST-traceable certificate, and repairs use parts from our own stock.

Where Texas Independence and the Ship Channel Meet

Deer Park and La Porte share some of the most important ground in Texas history. The Battle of San Jacinto was fought here on April 21, 1836, and the San Jacinto Monument, dedicated in 1939, still rises over the battleground between the two cities. A century after the battle, industry arrived: a refinery opened in Deer Park in 1928 and 1929 and a chemical plant followed in 1941. The city incorporated in 1948 and grew alongside the plants.

La Porte added the port. Barbours Cut Container Terminal opened in 1977 and moves containers between ships, rail and freight yards every day, and the Battleground Industrial District holds polymer plants, industrial gas producers and chlor-alkali facilities. Behind the fence lines, restaurants, grocers and seafood markets serve crews and residents on SH 225 and SH 146.

Chemical sites that hose down their weigh stations do well with a stainless washdown drum scale like the Optima 2,000 lb unit shown above, and freight yards near Barbours Cut use NTEP floor scales such as the Detecto 48 by 48 inch platform. For hazardous-location areas, check the area classification with your safety team and we will match an intrinsically safe model to it.

Repairs Behind the Fence Line

Plant scales live in heat, humidity, chemical exposure and constant traffic. These are the repairs we see most:

  • Corroded load cells and connectors on drum and floor scales near process units. We test each cell, replace damaged ones with sealed load cells and recalibrate.
  • Indicators knocked out by washdown or power surges. We repair or replace the indicator and restore the calibration settings.
  • Floor scales shock-loaded by forklifts in freight and warehouse yards, checked corner by corner and trimmed.
  • Lab balances drifting from vibration or air handling. We check the bench and room before adjusting the balance.
  • Crane scales in maintenance shops that took a dropped load, inspected and recalibrated before the next lift.

Our technicians follow your site safety rules and permit process; tell us your orientation and PPE requirements when you book. Repairs are quoted per job, and rental scales cover turnarounds.

Certificates for Plants and Ports

Refineries and chemical plants usually ask for a NIST-traceable certificate with as-found and as-left data for their quality and process-safety records. Freight yards that bill by weight, and counters that sell by weight, need a scale that meets NIST Handbook 44 and is suitable for its use, usually an NTEP-approved model, placed into service by a registered technician of a TDA-licensed service company, with the RWM-780 filed. See legal-for-trade calibration.

Plants often schedule calibration around turnarounds, with critical scales on a six-month cycle. Freight scales should be checked every three to six months. On-site calibration is done during the visit, and scales sent to our shop are usually ready in 1 to 3 business days.
