Scale Calibration & Repair in League City & Galveston, TX
Scale calibration and repair in League City, TX and the Bay Area, from Webster and Clear Lake down to Galveston Island. Our TDA-registered technicians calibrate and repair scales for engineering labs, hospitals, seafood docks, restaurants and plants on the coast, and mail-in calibration keeps a single scale simple from anywhere on the island. Every scale gets an in-house or NIST-traceable certificate.
Space, Seafood and the Island
League City takes its name from J. C. League, a Galveston businessman who bought land here in the early 1890s and renamed the town from Clear Creek to League City. Its modern growth came with the space program: NASA began building its Manned Spacecraft Center, now Johnson Space Center, on the north shore of Clear Lake in 1961, and aerospace contractors, defense suppliers and engineering labs settled around it in Webster and Clear Lake. Those labs weigh parts and samples on analytical balances that need traceable records.
South along I-45, the coast takes over. Docks and seafood markets from Kemah to the Galveston waterfront weigh catch all day, grocers and restaurants sell by the pound, and offshore and bay tournaments need certified scales at the weigh-in. Galveston is also home to the state’s oldest medical school, founded in 1891, and a hospital corridor runs through Webster. Refineries and chemical and plastics plants line the bay.
The Bay Area’s Weighing Needs
| Industry | What gets weighed | Scales | Class |
|---|---|---|---|
| Aerospace and defense labs | Parts, samples | Analytical, semi-micro | I / II |
| Hospitals and medical school | Patients, compounding | Patient, balance | III / II |
| Seafood docks and markets | Catch, ice, boxes | Washdown bench | III |
| Grocers and restaurants | Food sold by weight | Price computing | III |
| Bay plants | Drums, additives, resin | Floor, bench | III |
| Fishing tournaments | Fish at weigh-ins | Hanging, platform | III |

Seafood counters need stainless washdown scales like the LP7611W that stand up to ice, brine and hosing. Tournament weigh stations often hang a crane scale such as the MNM 500 lb unit with remote. Our guide to deli and counter scales covers what the counter needs to be legal in Texas.
Coastal Scale Repairs
Salt air, humidity and washdowns are hard on electronics, and most coastal repairs trace back to them:
- Corroded connectors and cut cables on washdown and dock scales. We replace the cable and recalibrate.
- Load cells failing after heavy use and salt exposure. We test each cell, replace the damaged ones and recalibrate.
- Settings scrambled by a mis-key or power surge. A scale in calibration mode or set to the wrong units will misprice every sale. We restore settings and handle the TDA paperwork.
- Lab balances in Clear Lake that drift with humidity changes. We check the room, then clean and adjust the balance.
- Rusted platforms on dock scales, assessed for repair or replacement with a stainless model.
Repairs are quoted per job. Mail-in repair works well for small scales from the island, and rentals cover tournament season.
Selling Seafood by the Pound, and Lab Records
Seafood counters and fish markets that sell by weight need a scale that meets NIST Handbook 44 and is suitable for its use, usually an NTEP-approved model, placed into service by a registered technician of a TDA-licensed service company. We calibrate the counter scale and send in the RWM-780, and help with RWM-700. Aerospace and medical labs usually need a NIST-traceable certificate for audits. See legal-for-trade calibration.
Coastal scales benefit from shorter intervals, often every six months, because corrosion moves faster near salt water. Lab balances follow the lab’s quality schedule. On-site calibration is done during the visit, and shipped-in scales are typically turned around in 1 to 3 business days.
Getting to League City and Galveston
Our technicians follow US 290 and I-610 into the city, then I-45 south through Webster and League City to the causeway. Expect about 75 minutes to League City and an hour and a half or more to Galveston.
| From our Cypress shop to | Main route | Round trip (approx.) |
|---|---|---|
| Webster and Clear Lake | US 290, I-610, then I-45 south | About 102–116 miles |
| Central League City | US 290, I-610, then I-45 south | About 107–119 miles |
| Galveston (downtown) | I-45 south over the causeway | About 156–168 miles |
A coastal trip is the $295 on-site call plus $2 per mile, round trip, charged once for the whole visit, with each scale priced by capacity. Because the drive is long, combine every scale at your site into one visit, or ship a single scale in. For dock floor and crane scales, our technicians bring their own certified test weights. League City and Galveston Scale Service FAQ
What does a League City visit cost?
Central League City is about 107 to 119 miles round trip from our shop. The $295 on-site call plus $2 per mile, round trip, is charged once per visit, with each scale priced by capacity.
Do you come to Galveston?
Yes. Downtown Galveston is about 156 to 168 miles round trip. For one or two scales, mail-in calibration is often the better value.
Do you calibrate tournament weigh-in scales?
Yes. We calibrate hanging and platform scales before the event and provide a certificate for the weigh-in station.
My seafood market sells by weight. What do I need?
A scale that meets NIST Handbook 44 and is suitable for its use, usually an NTEP-approved model, placed into service under Texas rules. We calibrate it and file the RWM-780 and RWM-700 paperwork.
Do you calibrate lab balances for aerospace suppliers?
Yes. Analytical and semi-micro balances are calibrated on your bench with NIST-traceable certificates.
How often should a coastal scale be calibrated?
Every six months is common near salt water, because corrosion and humidity affect accuracy faster than inland.
