Scale Calibration & Repair in North Houston & IAH, TX

Scale calibration and repair in North Houston, from Greenspoint and Aldine to the cargo roads around Bush Intercontinental (IAH). MNM Scales sends TDA-registered technicians from our Cypress shop to warehouses, freight forwarders, fabrication shops, food distributors and pawn shops across the north side. Every scale leaves with an in-house or NIST-traceable certificate, and repairs are handled on your dock or at our shop.

Freight Country Around the Airport

The north side runs on freight. Cargo buildings and forwarders around IAH bill by weight, cross-dock and distribution warehouses line Beltway 8, the Hardy Toll Road and I-45, and national food brands run plants and cold storage nearby. In between, older industrial pockets off Aldine Bender Road and Airline Drive hold steel, metal and fastener shops, and pawn shops and gold buyers line Airline Drive and Aldine Mail Route.

One recent north-side job shows the mix: a floor scale and a livestock scale kit for a major logistics center near IAH, calibrated and set up in one visit. Freight floors and specialty weighing often share an address up here, so we plan visits to cover everything at once.

A 48 by 48 inch NTEP floor scale like the Detecto shown above is the workhorse of north-side receiving. Forklift scales such as the Tara MNM Scales system weigh the load on the forks, saving a trip to the floor scale; we install them on your lift and calibrate them on-site. Our loader and forklift scale guide explains how they work.

Scale Problems We Fix Most on the North Side

  • Settings changed by accident. A busy dock crew can bump a scale into calibration mode or change its units or filter. We restore the settings and recalibrate across the full range.
  • Load cells worn out by forklift traffic. Floor and pallet scales that carry every load eventually lose a cell and start to creep. We test each cell, replace the failed one and recalibrate.
  • Cut or crushed cables from pallet jacks and dock plates. We replace or splice the cable and check the scale before we leave.
  • Jewelry balances that read unstably near open doors and fans. We relocate, level and calibrate them.
  • Counting scales in fastener shops that miscount small parts, usually a sample-size issue we correct on the spot.

Repairs are quoted per job. For peak season or while your scale is in the shop, scale rentals cover every type, from parcel and bench scales to floor, pallet and crane scales.

Freight Charges, Gold and Texas Rules

When a scale sets a freight charge or a buying or selling price, Texas treats it as a commercial weighing device. It must meet NIST Handbook 44 and be suitable for its use, usually an NTEP-approved model, and be placed into service by a registered technician of a TDA-licensed service company, with the RWM-780 report filed and the yearly RWM-700 registration kept current. That covers cargo scales that bill by weight and the balances pawn shops use to buy gold. Our legal-for-trade calibration page lists the steps, and NIST-traceable certificates are available for shippers and auditors who ask for traceability.

High-traffic dock scales should be checked every three to six months; pawn shop balances often follow their inspection schedule. On-site calibration is done during the visit, and drop-off or mail-in scales typically come back in 1 to 3 business days.
